The MarvinHR De-Brief – All it Takes is One Push-up [2024 Wrap Up]

Marvin Podcast 2024 Wrap-up All it takes is one push-up

The 3rd & final lesson of 2024. It is difficult to determine your priorities because the world changes so quickly. Getting a strategy right is crucial, as it can be easy to make mistakes. As mentioned in the 1st episode, “What if I’m wrong?.”

Secondly, involve your entire team and ensure they are happy, safe, and performing well. The next step is to identify what you will do today or tomorrow based on what we know to be true. Priorities are incredibly important; sometimes, focusing on the 2nd priority can be the most dangerous choice.

Simply asking, “What is the next right thing?” is more important than just “doing the next thing right.”

Changing behaviours is vital, and one of the systems Nick Marvin & Saarrah Mathinthiran use involves the compounding effect of starting or maintaining good habits while also stopping bad ones.

Identify and eliminate any bad habits we have, both at work and in our personal lives. So, how do you start? All you need to do is one push-up. What is the “push-up” that we can do as a team tomorrow that could change the world and make it better? Ella Barwood asked, “How do you take the first push-up?” This can be uncomfortable.

Nick mentions that “momentum gives you motivation.” Build up and aggravate—there will be days when you don’t want to engage with a habit that you know is beneficial.

Jerry Seinfeld has a great philosophy: if you fail, remember this rule: “If you break a streak, don’t break it twice.” Essentially, if you can’t do it today, make sure to do it tomorrow.
